Globsyn students have done it again

Globsyn Business School students have once again proved their business management skills in different management games held in the city. In the debate competition jointly organized by Calcutta Management Association and All India Management Association on the topic – ‘The current global crisis is more of an opportunity than a threat to India’, Sharmistha Ghosh was adjudged the best speaker, whereas the GBS team (Sharmistha Ghosh & Zeeshan Furrukh) was the runner up of the event.

In the ‘Drucker Fest’ organized by ISB&M the Globsyn students swept away all the trophies after beating several renowned business schools. The GBS team comprising Zujar Bakkalla, Neena Jha, Manisha Hansia, Rahul Das, Vikash Rajdev, and Hussain Khandwala won 1st prizes in the six different events like – Extempore Debate, Product Promo, Business Plan, What’s the Good Word, and Eureka.

Success of these Globsyn Business School’s students once again proves the high value of the school’s knowledge application based education system.

Globsyn Collaborates with Tulane University for International Finance Program

Globsyn Business School – a pioneer in creating industry ready professionals has always given emphasis to the industry requirements while designing its courses. In this current time of financial meltdown when the need of the hour is quality finance professionals who can play by the rule of the game, Globsyn Business School has responded by launching ‘Post Graduate Program in International Finance’ (PGPM – IF) in collaboration with A. B. Freeman School of Business, Tulane University, USA.

The Freeman School's Finance program has been ranked among the top 10 Finance programs in the world by the Financial Times in its latest survey of global MBA programs in 2008. The PGPM-IF program will help students gain insights into the real world of financial systems, with real-time trading simulations embedded at the core of the program. Tulane University faculties will travel from USA to Globsyn Business School, Kolkata to teach course modules. The course offers a wide spectrum of relevant subjects like Investments, cases on Valuation and Financing, Financial Modeling, International Banking & Finance, Derivatives, and Risk Management to name a few. Two advanced modules on trading will be taught at Tulane University at New Orleans, USA.

Dr. Venkat Subramaniam (Exxon Professor of Finance - A. B. Freeman School of Business, Tulane University) while launching the program along with Prof. R. C. Bhattacharya (Director, Globsyn Business School) and Mr. Romit Dasgupta (Director, Globsyn Group) gave details of the program and also conveyed that being the intellectual capital of India, ‘Kolkata’ is the perfect place to start the program. Ms. Maria Lee (Director, Professional Education – A. B. Freeman School of Business, Tulane University) shared the detail profile of the faculties who will be travelling to Globsyn Business School to teach in this program. Dr. Angelo DeNisi (Dean - A. B. Freeman School of Business, Tulane University) in his video message said – “India without a doubt is the largest supplier of technically trained manpower in the world and we think this is an important place to be for the future, but we needed to find the right partner and I think in Globsyn we found the right partner.”

In the Industry Interaction meet held after the launch, the corporates were seen very excited about the program and they appreciated Globsyn's effort in starting such a kind of a program which will provide the industry the finance professionals with global outlook.

Globsyn Business School (GBS) always encourages social work to its students because it believes social work is an integral part of a student’s wholesome development. As a part of that the students of GBS Ahmedabad organized a cultural event comprising dance, skit, songs etc. for differently-abled students of Uvarsad village in Gujrat. They also presented some small gift to those special children who thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Prof. R. C. Bhattacharya – Director, Globsyn Business School along with the delegates from Coventry University, UK were also present in the program. The GBS students were very excited after the successful event and they were looking forward to have some more activities like this in near future.

Globsyn Students at Glasgow University

Globsyn Business School offers a two year fulltime M.Sc. program in International Marketing or International Business, jointly with Glasgow University, UK. After the initial foundation course in Globsyn Business School a student has to spend 8 months at the Glasgow University to complete the program. As a part of that, this year five of our students – Rahul Dutta, Kaushik Nandan, Arundhuti Bhattacharya, Vikas Kumar Viswash, and Subhojyoti Palchowdhury were selected by the prestigious Glasgow University to complete their program from UK.

Currently these five students are completing their M.Sc. from Glasgow University. After completion of the program the students will get two years of work permit in UK.

Globsyn Students has Won B School Event

The students of ‘Globsyn Business School’ competed with the best b schools and finished as the winner in the marketing game “ROOK-E” organized by Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management. The game involved two rounds. In the first round the students had to come up with an idea that they believed would be a super flop if implemented. Whereas in the second round they had to market the idea presented by other b school in a positive way to get the investment for the project. The Globsyn Business School students successfully marketed the idea of ‘Dilapidate Toothpaste’ (a decaying toothpaste) which was the idea of another top b school, to the judges and adjudged as the winner of the event.

Congratulations to ‘Team GBS’ comprising Zujar Kutub Bakkalla, Vikash Prakash Rajdev, and Hussain Kikabhai Khandwala for the success.

Globsyn Business School organized Faculty Development Program

Globsyn Business School in association with ‘Association of Indian Management School’ (AIMA) organized a ‘Faculty Development Program’ on 23rd February 2009 at Globsyn Business School campus. The main theme of the program was ‘Case Study Method of Teaching and Research’. The keynote speaker of the program was Prof. Sekhar Chaudhury (Chairman, IIM Kolkata). Other notable participants were Mr. Aloke Mukherjea (Chairman Flakt India), Prof Ashok Banerjee (Prof. of Finance, IIM, Kolkata), Dr. K. M. Bhattacharya (Dean, Centre of Excellence for Finance, ICFAI), and Prof. R. C. Bhattacharya (Director, Globsyn Business School). Prof. Angus Laing (Head of University of Glasgow Business School, University of Glasgow) also shared the methods of teaching in U.K Business Schools. This program was designed for management teachers & researchers to make them aware about these newer tools and modern research techniques. It will enhance the class effectiveness of the faculty as well as the students.
