A Different Diwali @ Globsyn

Deepavali or Diwali as we fondly call is celebrated all over India as the festival of light, the triumph of good over evil. It is not just another ritual but a tradition that teaches us the importance of sharing, that happiness shared among all increases happiness, that light can only penetrate the dark if we can spread light all around us.

To spread this happiness, on the eve of Diwali, the members of Rotaract Club of Calcutta Metro South (Globsyn Business School) organized a little celebration with those people who are a part of our lives but we rarely acknowledge their contribution. All the house-keeping and support staffs working in Globsyn Business School and Globsyn Technologies, the laborers working in the adjacent construction site and the little boys working in the ‘jhups’ in and around Salt Lake, Sector V were invited to celebrate Diwali with the Rotaractors. Crackers and sweets were distributed among all. Small games like Rangoli making, for the women and among the men a competition to eat max amount of sweets in a minute were also organized.

It was a very small and humble effort from the students of Globsyn Business School to bring smile on the these faces but in return they received a feeling of immense satisfaction and the blessings of a old man who found a family away from his family.

On ‘Maha Ashtami’ – the most auspicious day among the four days of the festivals all the inmates gathered for ‘Anjali’. Some of the inmates who were not able to come down for the Anjali were brought on stretchers by the Globsyn students. The traditional ‘Sandhi Puja’ was offered on the same day.

In the morning of ‘Maha Nabami’ the puja was performed and in the evening cultural function with song, dance, and magic show was also organized. The evening was enjoyed by the inmates whole heartedly as it was the last day of the puja.

As always ‘Bijoya Dashami’ was the most emotional day, as after the ‘Bisorjon’ the students had to leave their grandmas & grandpas. All the inmates were in tears while saying goodbye to their grandchildren but they were also happy that in the next year they will be meeting them again.
