'Serendipity' celebrated at Globsyn, Kolkata

‘Serendipity’ which literally means ‘discovering happiness’, is the annual management and cultural event organized by the students of Globsyn Business School (GBS). The whole program is planned, designed, marketed, and performed by the students themselves as for them ‘Serendipity’ is a live project where they get an opportunity to apply their management skills and learning in real life.

This year, Globsyn Business School, Kolkata organized ‘Serendipity’ on 30th January, at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre in Salt Lake. The daylong program was inaugurated by Mr. Bikram Dasgupta (Chairman & CEO, Globsyn Group) and Prof. R. C. Bhattacharya (Vice Chairman & Director, Globsyn Business School) by lighting the lamp. Ankita Neogi & Rupa Chatterjee then sang the inaugural song – ‘Aguner Poroshmoni’.

This was followed by ‘Corporate Summit’ where the industry stalwarts like Mr. Venkatram V. (CFO, Apollo Hospitals), Mr. Arup Dutta (VP, Business Banking Head, Eastern Zone, Axis Bank), Mr. Gautam Bandyopadhyay (G.M.-HR, ABP Pvt. Ltd.), and Mrs. Mamta Binani (Chairperson of Institute of Company Secretaries) shared their views on the topic 'Leading an outlier organization through innovation in challenging times'.

The post lunch session started with the ‘Convocation Ceremony’, a very proud moment for the school. This year around 240 students received their PG Diplomas in Management (Full Time and Executive), and PG Diploma in International Business. The Chief Guest of the Convocation was Mr. Sanjay Budhia (MD, Patton Group) and the Keynote Speaker was Dr. David Pilsbury (Pro Vice Chancellor, Coventry University, UK).

Mr. Budhia in his speech shared his own experience of tough decisions making and the importance of education in corporate life. Dr. Pilsbury spoke about educational opportunities in India for the Indian students as foreign collaborations bringing the best of international education to India.

In the evening ‘Cultural Event’ was kicked off with a short video clip on the five elements of earth and how mankind came into existence followed by a skit on greed, despair, terror and Mother Earth begging of all her children from diverse backgrounds to come together and keep the candle of hope burning bright to dim out all the negativities that surround us.

After that there were scintillating dance and song performed by the Globsyn Business School students which truly boasted of variety ranging from Chinese, Malaysian, Sufi, Dandiya and Garba to contemporary fusion and Western performances, as well.

The eventful day concluded with the GBS students hosting their parents, guest, and faculty teams for a sumptuous dinner.

With the success of ‘Serendipity 2010’ Globsyn Business School students once again proved the belief of Mr. Bikram Dasgupta that – “Ordinary people can do extraordinary things…”
