Globsyn Invites Rural Marketing Guru

The Indian rural market with its vast size and demand base offers great opportunities to Indian companies. More than 70% of the Indian population lives in rural areas and almost half of the national income is generated here. It is only natural that rural markets form an important part of the total Indian market. With the initiation of various rural development programs there have been an upsurge of employment opportunities for the rural poor which induces demand surge in these areas. Different Indian and multinational companies understanding this current situation is concentrating more in the rural market to service the growing demand and it is quite evident that all of them are finally understanding the Mr. C. K. Prahlad’s message – “Fortune lies at the bottom of the pyramid”.

In this backdrop the Director of Globsyn Business School Prof. R. C. Bhattacharya invited Mr. Pradeep Kashyap (Founder – Mart Rural Solutions) whom Mr. C. K. Prahlad described as ‘'The Father of Rural Marketing' to the campus and interact with the students.

Mr. Kashyap in his lecture pointed out the importance of the rural economy in India and he said that the rural India is more important than the urban India. Justifying his remark he said during the recent economic meltdown when urban India was facing the heat it was the strong demand in the rural economy which helped India to maintain a higher growth rate. Speaking about the rural market Mr. Kashyap said almost in all categories including FMCG, Durable, Agriculture etc. the rural market is contributing higher than the urban market. In conclusion he urged the students to focus in rural market as all the leading companies are looking for professionals who have exposure to these areas because future of the Indian economy lies in the rural sector.
