Globsyn Business School celebrates Serendipity 2009



Globsyn Business School (GBS) celebrated its annual management and cultural event ‘Serendipity’, on 14th and 15th of Feb at the EZCC Auditorium, Salt Lake City. The program was inaugurated by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the Art of Living movement.

Guruji’s session was followed by the convocation, where Dr J. J. Irani, Director Tata Sons, was the Chief Guest. A total of 135 students received their Post Graduate Diplomas for the year 2006-2008.

The evening saw the students of GBS performing a “Musical Extravaganza” Which was then followed by dinner hosted by the students for their parents.

15th of Feb started with The Corporate Summit, where eminent Industrial personalities like Ms Madhumita Basu: Sr GM Eveready Industries, Dr M. K. Maheshwari: VP-Personnel, Albert David Ltd, Mr S. K. Chanda: Chief GM, Mother Dairy, Ms Sushmita Chanda: Head KPO Division, ICRA India and Mr Sumit Binani: Sr VP, SREI Finance were present. The topic of the discussion was “The changing face of the 2009 executive; his priorities, his roles, his focus”.

‘Battle Royale’, which is an inter b-school management game was the next event. This year, institutes like IIM Cal, IISWBM, Army Institute of Management etc. participated in the event. The student in the game needed to enact live cases from the field of Finance, HR and Marketing. The next event for the day was the ‘Mock Parliament’ – a debate where the participants from IIM Cal, IISWBM, Army Institute of Management, ISB & M, ISB etc. debated on topics like ‘Stimulus Package or Bailout’, ‘India having a minority community Prime Minister’ etc. Both the events were won by IIM Cal. ‘Mock Parliament’ was followed by a lively ‘Antakshari’, where schools like the Army Institute of Management, NSHM, IISWBM, ISB & M and P C Chandra participated. The event was won by PC Chandra.

Finally, the day ended with the ‘Rock Nite’, where the in house ‘Globsyn Band’ stated the evening with their scintillating performance. After the band Vicky (Arindam), one of the singers from Star Voice of India took the stage to entertain the students.

Overall Serendipity’09 was a grand success. The students not only discovered their hidden talents but also learnt a lot about the industry from the eminent speakers. The students of GBS raised more than Rs. 5L and the institute has decided to donate its entire savings from it towards a social cause through its CSR arm.

Shri Shri Ravi Shankar inaugurates 'Serendipity 2009'



On 14th February 2009 His Holiness Shri Shri Ravi Shankar inaugurated ‘Serendipity 2009’ – the annual event organized by the students of Globsyn Business School at EZCC, Kolkata. Earlier he also visited the Globsyn Business School campus and showered his blessing.

While addressing the students through an interactive session Guruji touched upon the issues starting from present economic scenario to improving concentration level of a student. Guruji said – “Difficulties create opportunities”, so this difficult economic time will create new opportunities, although this difficult time will be over very soon and the economy will be moving on the right track again. He advised the students to take everyday as a new one. In a humorous way he said even while fighting with someone the fights should start afresh everyday. According to Shri Shri Ravishankar ‘Stress’ is something which can motivate a person to do good, so no one should be afraid of a stressful situation. He said ‘Apology’ is something which can do a lot of good if a person feels he has made any mistake. To overcome any kind of fear Guruji recommended four ways – intense passion, intense love, intense hatred, and Faith. He said ‘Meditation’ is required for higher concentration level and to reduce mental tension in hard times. After that he had a small meditation session with the 900 odd audiences present in the auditorium.

Glasgow Official Visits Globsyn

Globsyn Business School offers post graduate program in International Business with Glasgow University and in this regard Ms. Vivienne Blaumfield, Professor of Education, University of Glasgow visited Globsyn Business School campus on 6th February. She attended a meeting with the faculties of the school. They discussed on – ‘Value Based Education in Current Global Context’. After the discussion Ms. Blaumfield also had an interactive session with the students.

Globsyn duo wins 'Business Idea' award

Two ‘Globsyn Business School’ students - Swapno Kumar Dash and Rohit Saharan have won first and second prizes respectively in the recently held Tata NEN Business Idea competition. From about 250 entries the ideas chosen by the judges for the first two awards were – ‘Fun on the Run’ and ‘Virtual Hotel’. Swapno who has won the first prize of Rs. 1lakh, while explaining his idea said that the ‘Fun on the Run’ project conceived by him will provide entertainment to the regular commuters of daily train if implemented. Whereas Rohit is very confident that his virtual hotel will be an instant hit and will give high returns to the investors. Both of them are very much interested to go ahead with their projects and they are thankful to the Globsyn Business School faculties for helping them in making such a project.

Globsyn Business School which has always believed in the power of differential thinking and in it's credo that 'Ordinary people can do extraordinary things', is extremely happy with these achievements of its students.

Scottish Delegation visits Globsyn


A delegation team consisting members from different colleges of Scotland visited Globsyn Business School today. The team had Ms. Michelle Grimley (Scotland's Colleges International), Ms. Julia Weedon (Edinburgh's Telford College), Ms. Fiona Jurk, Ms. Anne Wake and Mr. Jeff Imrie (all from Dundee College), Ms. Jean Wilcon and Mr. Bruce Adam (both from Forth Valley College), Ms. Morag Campbell, (Stevenson College) and Ms. Dilda Dow (Central College Glasgow). They interacted with Mr. Romit Dasgupta (Director, Globsyn Group), Prof. Subhendu Dey (Associate Dean, Globsyn Business School), and Prof. Bikramjit Sen (HOD – International Business, Globsyn Business School). They had a very fruitful discussion on different aspects and both the sides have shown keen interest to work together in the future.
